1) Why is tree work so expensive? Why do prices vary so much between companies?
These questions are related! Tree equipment (trucks and off-road) and labor (wages and benefits) are expensive. Big equipment and skilled employees can handle difficult jobs but may cost more than a single operator with a pickup and a chainsaw.
2) Do you use sub-contractors?
Yes, we need them for the more specialized aspects of our business: stump grinding, crane-assisted removals and specialized climbing. We require that our sub-contractors provide a certificate of insurance and a W-9.
3) What’s a W-9?
A W-9 is a Federal form that proves the contractor is withholding payroll taxes according to State and Federal guidelines. Some companies will try to avoid paying withholding and unemployment tax by using sub-contractors instead of employees.
4) Can I set an appointment for my work?
We do our best to work with your schedule Monday thru Friday (sometimes on a Saturday for commercial clients). Unfortunately, this business can be very unpredictable: weather, equipment failure, delays due to add-ons and sick days all contribute to variability in our schedules. Our office is staffed Monday thru Friday, 7am-4:30pm - call with scheduling questions!
5) Where does the wood go?
Because of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), Ramsey and Hennepin Country ash wood must be disposed of at an approved disposal site. Other metro counties are not subject to quarantine and much of that wood is brought to Hugo to await processing for District Energy.

6) What if I want to keep some wood?
Great! Oak and Elm should be covered tightly during the warm months to prevent the spread of Dutch Elm and Oak Wilt. Please let us know before we begin cutting if you are keeping wood. We will cut your limbwood to firewood for an additional fee.
7) What if I discover I can’t pay my bill?
Let us know. Tree work is expensive and often comes as an unplanned expense. We accept credit cards and are happy to set up a payment plan. Unpaid invoices with no payment plan in place are sent to collection.
8) What if I’d like a reference?
Just ask! We can direct you to satisfied clients throughout the metro area.
